Tajik authorities introduce power rationing in rural areas of the country

07.01.2021

Starting from January 5, from 23 o’clock in rural areas of Tajikistan, where there are no high-rise residential buildings, the electricity supply will be stopped, a source in the government of the republic told Asia-Plus.

There will be no light in the homes of Tajiks until 6 o’clock in the morning.

This decision, according to the source, was made due to the fact that the water level in the reservoir of the Nurek HPP is 4 meters lower compared to the same period last year.

The source did not say until what date the energy limit will last.

The source assured Asia-Plus that today Tajikistan does not export electricity to neighboring countries.

In autumn, residents of rural areas and districts of the republic began to complain about frequent and prolonged power outages: they received 4-6 hours of electricity per knock.

Barki Tojik denied that there was an energy limit in the country, blaming the spread of coronavirus in the world and the prolonged maintenance work in energy networks and substations for this reason.

Since December 10, all villages, districts, cities of the republic, excluding individual cases of disconnection for several hours, began to receive light uninterrupted and around the clock.

However, according to experts, Tajikistan’s water and energy resources are not enough to last until the spring-summer period, and the likelihood of restrictions is obvious.

Recall that in the New Year’s televised address to the people, President Emomali Rahmon once again asked all residents of Tajikistan:

“If we want to spend the winter without problems and difficulties, so that there is no need for restrictions, then we must attach paramount importance to the economical and rational use of electricity in the winter period.”
