In the previous post, we talked about the launch of the youth network “We are for safe Food”, about the first results of monitoring and about the consequences of violations of the requirements of the legislation of food sale identified by volunteers.
The results of the first monitoring made a good impression on the members of the volunteer network, according to which the volunteers enthusiastically conducted another series of monitoring. As noted in the previous article, according to the developed plan, monitoring was carried out in other retail outlets of the city. The monitoring was carried out on July 2, 2021 and covered 5 mini-markets of the capital.
During the monitoring process, volunteers checked such goods as meat products, confectionery, semi-finished products, sweets. The volunteers purchased products with the same violations as in the previous monitoring series. All purchased goods were transferred by the Consumers Union of Tajikistan for analysis and verification to the Agency “Tajikstandart”. During the inspection Tajikstandart specialists revealed violations in 13 food products. Basically, these are expired food products, products that do not have labels, products without information or without information in an accessible language. According to the results of the analysis, violators had to pay fines in the amount of 400 to 700 somoni. To avoid repeated cases of such violations by stores and retail outlets, the volunteers of the “We are for safe food” network left them the famous message from the movie “Terminator”: “I’ll be back”.
The network “We are for safe food!” continues its activities and plans to conduct regular monitoring in previously checked stores in order to eliminate the shortcomings identified in the process of previously conducted monitoring. In particular, the sale of food products in violation of the requirements of the law, these are expired goods, goods without relevant information, or information in a foreign language, storage conditions for perishable goods, and so on.
